 Project and Showcase Requirements

A.  Project Requirements

Scenario:  You work for a private corporation and are creating a presentation for potential investors.  Your presentation must include at least 6 visualizations and a recommended course of action based upon the data in your visualizations

I want you to have fun with this project. Your presentation can be serious OR you can create a product like wonderful widgets - it is up to you! 

1.  Find a data source you are interested in (the file type should be csv or JSON)

2.  Create a minimum of 6 plots that highlight data from your files.  You should use a minimum of 4 different chart types.

3.   Create a PowerPoint presentation that incorporates the plots

4.  Summarize the information in each plot, highlighting what you want the investors to notice.

5.  Explain how the data supports whatever you are asking them to invest in.

You can select whatever topic you are interested in.  You can select whatever data you can find that supports your topic. 

Potential sources for data include:

NOTE:  US Census data can support almost anything if you put the proper spin on it :)

B  Slideshow Presentation Requirements:

1. Include the following types of slides:

  1. Title slide
  2. Introduction of the opportunity
  3. Data presentation/analysis (should have at least 6 slides with the 6 plots and a summary of information presented)
  4. Recommendations/Conclusions
  5. Closing slide thanking potential investors  (your contact information should be on the slide)
  6. Sources Cited

2.  Include a design theme for the slideshow.  If you want to use a template and customize it, that is OK

3.  Export the slideshow to an mp4 video that you will upload to the discussion forum.

NOTE:   If you used Plotly and included links to your charts in the slideshow, you will need to add the links to the discussion posting below your video; otherwise, your classmates will not be able to see your charts!

What you need to turn in to the project dropbox and discussion forum:

Project & Reflection Points

Submit a short reflective paper to the project dropbox that includes:

  1. What you liked about the project
  2. What you found frusterating (or what you did not like)
  3. Problems you encountered and how you handled them
  4. What you did well
  5. What you would do differently next time.

Submit a GitHub link to your project that includes all programming files used to create your charts AND your data source or sources.  You can submit the link to the same dropbox as the reflective paper

  • Created 6 plots using Matplotlib or Plotly 
  • Used at least 4 different types of charts    
  • Included the data source which was either a json or csv file

Showcase Presentation  

Created a PowerPoint slideshow and converted the slideshow into an MP4 video that was added to the discussion forum

  • Created a title slide
  • Introduced the opportunity
  • Presented the data and summarized the information in each plot
  • Recommended a course of action or presented conclusions
  • Thanked potential investors in a closing slide
  • Sited sources for the data and other resources used
  • Included a design theme for the slideshow
  • Converted the slideshow into an MP4 video AND added it to the discussion forum ON TIME

NOTE:  You do not need to turn in the actual PowerPoint file because I can see what you did in the dicussion forum

Peer Review  

Review your classmates presentations as a potential investor.  Find 3 presentations that appealed to you and reply to those presentations.  In your response, include the following information:

  1. What did you like about the presentation and/or the opportunity presented
  2. Was there anything else you would have liked to see that would have influenced your decision to invest or not
  3. If you had unlimited resources and funds, would you invest in the opportunity
